Miri Handicraft Center
Located along Jalan Merbau.
It contains the array of choices ranging from indigenous beads, costumes,
headwear, backpack and key chains for souvenir. The Handicraft Center is the
only center in Sarawak witch, owns and manages by city council for local handicraft
makers and sellers to sell the their products. Most of the common handicrafts are from local
indigenous communities are the pua kumbu of the Iban tribes and bamboo products of the
Bidayuh tribes and beads culture of the Orang Ulu tribes.
The New Buillding
The new Miri Handicraft Center is a two-storey building occupied by 13 tenants on the ground floor, where they would showcase their handicraft items. A gallery and a café are on the first floor. The building would be energy-efficient and practical to the tenants. The wide windows supply enough light; thus, reducing the amount of energy required to attain the same level of illumination. Other means are also applied to the building to maintain a comfortable temperature.
Tamu Mu-hibbah (Mu-hibbah Wet Market)
Tamu Mu-hibbah is located within the city's center, just opposite of miri central bus station. A place for the old, locals and outsiders, especially those from the neighbouring Bruneian, Tamu Muhibbah is among the few places in Miri where they can get a supply of the precious Bario rice. A trader at Tamu Muhibbah was unperturbed by the declining popularity of the market, saying there would always be regular customers as the young would eventually getting old. Their turn would come once they grew older and start looking for jungle fruits and vegetables not found at the mega malls. Revenue from the petroleum industry, which has been fuelling the development of Miri since the discovery of oil in the town in 1910.
Miri Central Market (Open Air Market)
Miri Open Air Market, or Miri Central Market is located at the heart of the old town center.
This market offers a variety of fruits, vegetables, tofu and porks. There are eatery stalls section within the center of the market which offer wide variety of foods such as curry rice, chicken porridge, "kolo mee" (dried noodles), kueh teow and much more.
Pasar Malam Saberkas Miri (Saberkas Night Market)
Situated at
Pujut-Lutong road in front of the Saberkas Commercial Centre near Taman
Bulatan Miri and Boulevard Commercial Centre. The night market has a strategic
location since a turning roundabout is just about there, bringing people from
the town area, Krokop, Piasau, Padang Kerbau and from Pujut-Senadin. The
night or weekend market opens every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening only. You can find variety of goods on sale
especially local food & drinks on each stall, and other items such as local
handicrafts, clothes, local produces as well as used magazines.
Emart Commercial Centre Tudan Fish Market
Emart Tudan Fish market is located just opposite terminal bus tudan miri.
